The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate celebrated its 150th running with another historic display by South Africa’s finest thoroughbreds against a royal backdrop at Kenilworth racecourse on Saturday, 8 January.

From an appearance by the legendary Horse Chestnut, a magnificent win by Mother Russia to claim victory over Pocket Power in the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate race, and the blend of fine wine, fashion and entertainment, this was indeed one of the most memorable editions of this prestigious event.

The record crowd of 6 000 racegoers, including South Africa’s A-list celebrities such as Nicola Breytenbach, Francesca Cumani, Jen Su, Natalie Becker, Tammy-Anne Fortuin, Jo-Ann Strauss, Liezel van der Westhuizen, Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis, did indeed revel amidst the theme of “Timeless Elegance”.

ouise Carver, Zebra and Giraffe, Locnville, Gazelle and Crazy White Boy thrilled racegoers with live performances at the Style Lounge Village, and VIP guests enjoyed a day of luxury and sophistication in the Stud Club.

In the spirit of celebrating excellence in timeless endeavours, there was a display of one of the largest vintage car collections in the world. The collection, courtesy of the Franschhoek Motor Museum, carried through the blue and white theme of the day.

Says Kate Salt, L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Spokesperson, “We’re thrilled with the outcome of this year’s L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate – from the elegance of the blue and white fashion, a top entertainment line-up and, of course, the racing. The event has exceeded expectations and has lived-up to its association with Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.”

A collection of South Africa’s top photographers were also on hand to capture the L’Ormarins Moment and the elegant fashions of the day - reflected in the “Best Dressed” competition, won by Susanna Warren, and “Best Hat”, won by Katrina Judd.

“We always enjoy the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate. It seems to be a more exclusive, sophisticated and up market event that our customers enjoy,” said local designer Malcolm Klûk.

Since its first running in 1861, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate continues to distinguish itself as a sophisticated meeting of racing excellence.

Mens Health Magazine Party

Hi Guys,

After the Red Cross Children's Hospital function we managed to make an appearance at The Men's Health Look of the Year Function which was also great fun. We hooked up with my dad's neighbors who were also invited. Once again Men's Health Magazine really came to the party and produced a magical event.

Jo Malone Launch at the Brittish High Commissioner's Residence

Hi Guys,

I was honored to be invited by The British High Commissioner to South Africa to attend the launch of Jo Malone in South Africa at his Cape Town residence recently. It was a really special occasion which was made even more special by the fact that my dad Richard was able to accompany me. Look out for Jo Malone in a shop near you soon. It comes highly recommended.

Lots of Love

CIDA City Campus

Hi Guys,

As you know I'm very honored to be involved with the Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) which was founded by Russell Simmons. Please check out the link on my Links page. I'm currently in South Africa attending to business obligations and took the opportunity to visit CIDA City Campus which is one of the organizations which benefits from the fund in South Africa. I was totally blown away by the enthusiasm, drive and dedication of the students.
CIDA is one of the only institutions in South Africa that offers degrees for free to students that cannot afford regular university tuition. I was humbled by the students stories as well as their hunger to accomplish great things in life. The Diamond Empowerment Fund is my charity of choice and a worthy cause I would recommend you get behind. Website: www.diamondempowerment.org

Rooi Rose Cover

Today I was back again shooting with Johan Wilke for an upcoming cover of Rooi Rose Magazine. A cover shoot is always fun and this time I got to work with Cornel Dunn from Rooi Rose. We really had a great time and I hope it comes across in the cover. It always amazes people who are not in the industry just how long it can take to get that one perfect shot for the cover. It was a long day but I think we nailed it. So keep your eyes open and pick up a copy of the mag when it comes out.

Pasella

Today I shot an insert for a South African TV show called Pasella. I was very surprised to find out that the person doing the interview was Minki van der Westhuizen, we have known each other for years. Part of the insert involved us visiting Streetwires, a very interesting organisation who seeks to empower and uplift individuals through the creation of unique hand-made wire and bead craft art. Click here to download a PDF document on this amazing organisation. Please support them when next you are thinking of ordering corporate gifts for your company or simply want to support a worthy cause.

Back In SA

So great to be back in South Africa. Today I shot a fashion feature for Rooi Rose Magazine, the shoot took over nine hours but the photos look great. I worked under the guidance of well known fashion editor Giselle Hon and acclaimed South African photographer Johan Wilke. Though I look a little crazy in some of the shots (all thanks to make-up and hair stylist Liz Kaplan) I think you are really going to like the photos. I really enjoyed today's shoot, its supposed to come out in the October edition of Rooi Rose Magazine so make sure you pick up a copy.

Engagement Statement

I'm very happy to announce that on the 20th of October this year I got engaged to my boyfriend of seven years, Ben Steiner. It was a complete surprise! I didn't see it coming at all. I'm very excited, I know Ben will be a great husband and partner. He's a real gentleman who shares the same values about family and life as I do. In the most traditional way he asked my dad first for my hand in marriage and after he gave the blessing proposed to me with a beautiful ring which he designed himself. He chose the diamond and then had it custom designed . I feel truly blessed to have such an amazing man to be my husband.

Following the engagement we went to dinner with Ben's dad, Jeffrey and my brother and father. It was such a special moment sitting there with my father and my farther-in-law to be, discussing wedding plans. We have decided to get married around May 2008 as Ben is doing his MBA in Washington DC at the moment.

So right now guys I'm looking at dresses and locations and all the fun things! I still have to pinch myself sometimes, I've dreamt of this since I was a little girl! I'm the happiest girl in the world!
